trying colors - mostly pale blues for a while, and some oranges, etc.
This project was proposed by Tammy Ackerman and Engine in late 2014 for the window space of the Marble Block building before renovation started in the spring of 2015. She had seen a piece I did for an event a few years ago in which I used projected halogen light and colored gels reflected off mirror surfaces onto a rear projection screen 8 feet high and 30 feet long. It involved motion and the screen was placed so that people could go around the rear of the screen, have their silhouette clearly defined on the other side where the majority of the crowd was. People would go to that side and play with their shadow image. It was a light show of sorts, except that it did not use liquids, overhead projectors or film loops. 'Luminarium' is part of a series of pieces that I've worked on since 1990 using light and motion as the medium, making it fluid, morphing it in time, like an abstract painting that is animated and changes while you are seeing it. |
